I don't know who is the target audience of these diet articles but I want to write down my current diet as it's working very well for me.
Simply I alternate every other day between:
- pure carnivore
- carnivore + fruit & veg
This essentially means having a 36hour carb fast every other day.
Carnivore day
There's not much to say about carnivore as it's a well documented diet. Essentially it's a zero-fibre diet where you only eat meat and dairy.
What I will say is that, although dairy is allowed on carnivore diet, I don't have any beyond the full-fat milk in my tea and coffee.
Fruit + Veg
On the day I do fruit + veg, I just eat the same stuff I eat on carnivore, with the following additions:
- yoghurt and berries with breakfast
- low-starch vegetables with dinner
I just reduce the quantity of meat slightly for my breakfast to compensate for the calories from the yoghurt and berries.
I rotate the vegetables for variety:
- broccoli
- cabbage
- courgette & peppers
- radishes & cucumber
- sauerkraut & celery
- asparagus
Portions of fruit and veg should be small as it's just enough to get a bit of fibre and nutrients.
Advantages
On this diet you will be lean and strong with no heartburn or flatulance.
This diet is great for your teeth as you eat almost zero sugar.
This diet is deliberately ketogenic because in my opinion the brain operates more efficiently during ketosis. Carbs seem to act like a sedative. So when eating fruit keep the amount minimal.
Eating out
Eating out is problematic because the carb-rich foods will pull you out of a state of ketosis.
Best is just to have one thing with calories. For example in a Cafe either have:
- caffè latte
- black coffee and croissant
